#01
Is Subnautica 2 already out?
Yes. Subnautica 2 is available in Early Access on PC and Xbox Series X/S. Early Access means the game is playable now, but it is still evolving: content, balance, performance, story elements and co-op systems can change through updates.
You can already explore, build, scan creatures, progress through the available story and play with friends, but you should expect patches, missing content and adjustments before the full release.
#02
Is Subnautica 2 a complete game?
No. Subnautica 2 is still in development. The Early Access version is a playable foundation, not the final version.
The full release should become more stable and more complete, with more biomes, creatures, tools, vehicles, story content and quality-of-life features. If you want a finished adventure, wait. If you enjoy following the game’s evolution, Early Access is the right moment.
#03
How long will Early Access last?
The exact duration can change, but Subnautica 2 Early Access should be treated as a long development period, probably lasting several years.
During that time, the game should receive fixes, balance updates, new content, co-op improvements and progression changes. The best approach is to follow the roadmap, patch notes and official announcements.
#04
What platforms is Subnautica 2 available on?
The current Early Access release focuses on PC and Xbox Series X/S. PC players can use supported stores, while Xbox players access the preview version through the console ecosystem.
Do not assume PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 versions are available unless they are officially confirmed later.
#05
Is Subnautica 2 on Xbox Game Pass?
Yes, Subnautica 2 is associated with compatible Xbox Game Pass offers. If you have the right subscription, you can play it while it remains in the catalog.
Buying the game separately can still make sense if you want to own it outside of a subscription or directly support the development.
#06
How much does Subnautica 2 cost?
The price depends on the store, region and possible discounts. Like many Early Access games, the price may change before or after the full release.
If you want the most stable and complete experience, wait for the final version. If you want to play now and follow development, Early Access can be worth it.
#07
Can you play Subnautica 2 solo?
Yes. Subnautica 2 can be played solo. Co-op is an option, not a requirement.
You can explore, build, scan, upgrade equipment and follow progression without relying on a group. Solo keeps the classic Subnautica feeling: isolation, oxygen pressure, discovery and tension.
#08
Can you play Subnautica 2 in co-op?
Yes. Subnautica 2 introduces co-op to the series. A session can include up to four players in total: the host and three friends.
Co-op changes the way you organize exploration. One player can gather resources, another can build the base, another can scan ruins and another can prepare tools. Voice communication makes the experience much smoother.
#09
Does Subnautica 2 support cross-platform play?
Subnautica 2 is designed around multiplayer between compatible platforms. Depending on the current version and platform limits, friends may be able to join each other even if they are not using the exact same store.
Use the in-game friend system or friend code system when available to make invites easier.
#10
Does Subnautica 2 support cross-platform saves?
Cross-platform saves can depend on your account, store, cloud save service and version. Do not assume every save will automatically transfer between different platforms.
Before switching between PC, Xbox or cloud play, check that the save is synchronized and create a backup if possible.
#11
Should you choose Survival mode or Creative mode?
Survival mode is the best choice for a first real playthrough. It includes oxygen, food, water, health, resources, hazards and normal progression.
Creative mode is better for testing base building, screenshots or relaxed exploration without survival pressure. For the real Subnautica experience, start in Survival.
#12
Where should you go first in Subnautica 2?
At the beginning, do not go too far. Secure the Lifepod, gather basic resources, craft essential tools and then head toward the Welcome Center.
That area usually acts as an early progression step, with important elements for Biomods, base building and exploration.
#13
What are NOA and the Black Boxes for?
NOA acts as a guide and narrative assistant. Black Boxes highlight important locations, story steps and sometimes areas that unlock new tools or progression.
If you are lost, check active signals, return to the Lifepod or your base, then follow the most recent Black Box marker.
#14
Is there a map in Subnautica 2?
Subnautica 2 does not rely on a classic large map. Navigation is based on signals, visual landmarks and Beacons you place yourself.
Place Beacons near resource caves, biome entrances, ruins, secondary bases and dangerous areas. It is the best way to avoid losing an important discovery.
#15
How do you get water and food?
Your first hours should secure basic needs. Collect available supplies, look for resources that can be turned into water and craft early survival tools quickly.
In Subnautica 2, running out of water can be more dangerous than getting lost for a few minutes. Always carry supplies before going far.
#16
How do you increase oxygen?
Improve oxygen as early as possible. Early solutions include Air Bladders, the Standard Air Tank, the High Capacity Air Tank, the Rebreather and eventually the Tadpole vehicle.
The Standard Air Tank is one of the top early priorities. Later, the Tadpole becomes a major safety tool for long dives.
#17
Where can you find silver and important resources?
Silver is often found in certain caves and quickly becomes essential for advanced components. When you find a resource-rich zone, mark it with a Beacon.
Early resources to watch include titanium, quartz, copper, silver, lead and materials used for batteries, the Habitat Builder and oxygen upgrades.
#18
Where can you find Lucifer’s Glow Sack?
Lucifer’s Glow Sack is an orange glowing resource found near some luminous plants. It is especially useful for making rubber and other early crafting items.
Pick up several when you find it, because this kind of resource often becomes important exactly when you are missing it.
#19
What is the Sonic Resonator used for?
The Sonic Resonator is a key tool. It can break large deposits, remove some organic obstacles, interact with progression zones and sometimes repel threats.
Unlock it as soon as possible, because it opens more exploration routes and resource gathering options.
#20
How do you remove Bloom Biofilm?
Bloom Biofilm blocks some doors, ruins and passages. Equip the Sonic Resonator, aim at the biofilm, charge the shot and release when the tool is ready.
After opening the path, scan everything behind it. These areas often hide blueprints, resources or useful clues.
#21
What are Biomods for?
Biomods unlock active or passive abilities. Some improve movement, oxygen, inventory space or survival in dangerous environments.
Early on, prioritize abilities that reduce oxygen pressure, improve mobility and help you escape predators faster.
#22
How do you increase inventory space and the hotbar?
Some habitats contain Bio Beds and upgrade screens. They can improve inventory space or expand your hotbar.
Explore lit habitats, interact with terminals and scan technical objects. Progression often depends on these secondary locations.
#23
How do you build a base?
To build a base, you need the Habitat Builder. A first base can be simple: a sealed module, a hatch, a power source, storage and a wall Fabricator.
Do not start too big. A small, well-placed base is better than a huge structure without power or resources.
#24
Where should you build your first base?
The best first base location is near useful resources, with easy access to air, few predators and enough room to expand. The Lifepod remains a good reference point.
Later, build secondary bases near advanced biomes, ruins or rare resource zones.
#25
How do you power a base?
At the beginning, Solar Panels are the simplest power source. Place them on or near the base to power interior oxygen, the Fabricator and basic modules.
Later, stronger power sources become useful when building away from light or near natural currents.
#26
Why build a Fabricator in your base?
The Lifepod Fabricator is useful early, but a real base with a wall Fabricator quickly becomes essential. It lets you centralize storage, equipment and crafting.
A functional base speeds up progression: tools, batteries, Air Tanks, components and repairs all become easier to manage.
#27
How do you get the Tadpole vehicle?
The Tadpole is a major early mobility goal. To unlock it, search for and scan several Tadpole fragments. Once the blueprint is unlocked, gather the required resources and build it as soon as possible.
The Tadpole lets you travel farther, save time and refill oxygen during exploration. It is one of the best early investments.
#28
How do you upgrade the Tadpole?
The Tadpole can receive useful upgrades: maximum depth, power, recharge, safety and repair-related modules. These upgrades become necessary for deeper zones.
Before a long trip, always check the Tadpole’s energy and carry what you need to repair or return safely.
#29
How do you open the Tadpole enclosures?
Tadpole enclosures are early progression puzzles. They usually require better preparation, heat tolerance and story clues linked to Black Boxes.
If a door stays blocked, do not force it. Follow the related signal, upgrade your equipment, then return with the Tadpole and the correct tool.
#30
How do you unlock heat tolerance?
Heat tolerance lets you explore areas that would normally deal too much damage. It is unlocked by progressing through the intended biological zones and using the Sonic Resonator when the environment requires it.
Prepare water, healing supplies, oxygen and a Beacon before entering hot areas.
#31
How do you follow the story?
Subnautica 2’s story progression goes through signals, Black Boxes, ruins, habitats and NOA messages. Each step often pushes you toward a new tool or biome.
When you are stuck, reread objectives, check active signals and return to scan areas you already visited.
#32
How do you move faster?
To move faster, craft better fins, unlock movement-related Biomods and aim for the Tadpole. The faster you move, the less oxygen you waste on travel.
In co-op, split roles: one player explores, another collects resources and another builds. Voice chat helps a lot.
#33
How do you avoid predators?
Subnautica 2 is not mainly a combat game. Against predators, it is usually better to avoid, go around and use defensive tools. Do not swim in a straight line for too long if a creature is chasing you.
Keep the Tadpole nearby, use movement abilities, mark dangerous areas with Beacons and avoid building your base in hostile territory.
#34
How do you scan efficiently?
The Scanner is one of the most important tools in the game. It unlocks blueprints, reveals information and helps you understand creatures, structures and resources.
Rule of thumb: if an object looks technological, unknown, alien or placed inside a ruin, try scanning it.
#35
How do you get the Bioscanner?
The Bioscanner improves biological analysis and helps unlock more Biomods. It arrives later than the basic Scanner.
Explore wrecks, habitats and advanced story signals to find the fragments or elements needed to unlock it.
#36
How do you manage batteries?
Tools consume energy quickly: Scanner, Sonic Resonator, survival equipment and advanced modules all need power. Always carry at least one spare battery.
Build a charging station in your base as soon as possible and keep charged batteries in a dedicated locker.
#37
How do you build a Scanner Room?
Scan the Scanner Room blueprint in a habitat, then build it inside your base. It helps locate resources around the base.
It becomes very useful when looking for silver, lead, quartz, copper or other specific materials.
#38
What is the Metal Farm for?
The Metal Farm is an advanced installation used to produce or multiply certain ores depending on the current version’s rules. It becomes interesting when rare materials start running low.
It is not a first-hour priority. Focus first on the base, oxygen, the Sonic Resonator and the Tadpole.
#39
What is the Processor?
The Processor is linked to advanced material production and deeper crafting progression. It helps unlock part of the more complex manufacturing loop.
If a recipe requires a material you cannot craft, you probably need to scan a blueprint, find a station or unlock the Processor.
#40
Why should you visit the Old Habitat?
The Old Habitat is an important progression zone for tools and base systems. It often acts as a bridge between the early game and more advanced exploration.
Scan everything, search corners carefully and place a Beacon before leaving.
#41
How do you unlock new recipes?
Recipes are mostly unlocked by scanning fragments, tools, modules, stations and structures. Ruins and habitats are the best places to progress.
If you cannot craft an item, you probably have not scanned the right blueprint or built the right station yet.
#42
How do you know what to do next?
When you are stuck, do not wander randomly. Check active signals, Black Boxes, uncrafted recipes, missing tools and ruins you already visited.
Subnautica 2 usually works as a loop: explore, scan, return, craft, upgrade and go farther.
#43
Is Subnautica 2 a horror game?
Subnautica 2 is not pure horror, but the atmosphere can be stressful: depth, low oxygen, unknown creatures, dark ruins and underwater sounds.
If deep water scares you, progress slowly, place Beacons and build relay bases.
#44
What does the roadmap include?
The roadmap includes quality-of-life improvements, co-op improvements, progression updates and more content: new biomes, tools, vehicles, resources, story and balance changes.
Treat Early Access as a foundation that will grow, not as the definitive version.
#45
Is voice chat coming to Subnautica 2?
Voice chat is part of the expected co-op improvements. Until it is fully integrated, Discord or platform voice tools are the easiest solution.
On Subnautica2.fr, the voice channels page helps French players find others and organize co-op sessions.
#46
Are item trading and revive coming?
The most anticipated co-op improvements include item trading, revive, reaction animations, a better interface and smoother player management.
These additions should make multiplayer sessions more fluid, especially when players split up to gather different resources.
#47
What is the best beginner routine?
A strong early routine is: search the Lifepod, collect basic resources, craft the Scanner and fins, find the Welcome Center, unlock early Biomods, scan the Habitat Builder, build a small base, look for silver, improve oxygen and aim for the Tadpole.
The core loop is simple: survive, scan, build, upgrade, explore, return, then go deeper.
